Psychiatric Care in Korea Between 1945-1955


Abstract
The object of this study is to review the psychiatric practice in Korea between 1945-1955.
The authors reviewed relevent articles, books and newspaper and analyzed old charts of that period.
The authors divided the period 1945-1955 into 1) from liberation from the Japanese imperialism to the outburst of the Korean war, 2) from the outburst of the Korean war to 1955.
The authors reviewed 1) The psychiatric person power, 2) the patients' diagnostic distribution and characteristics, 3) The tests, the treatments and the related activities. 4) The psychiatric facilities, 5) influences of the historical situations
on the
care of psychiatry.
Psychiatric practice in Korea which started by about 10 psychiatrists developed quantitatively and qualitatively through the difficulties of the Korean war.
